Compliance with EU GDPR and DPA Requirements

Emill complies with the EU’s GDPR and DPA regulations, ensuring secure and responsible data handling. Your content and collaboration are protected — and always treated with full confidentiality.

Your email address and a freely chosen username are stored in the platform. This username can be anything, offering flexibility and enhanced privacy.

You can also review detailed privacy information and Emill’s data protection policies in the GDPR Application Library.

Ongoing Development of the Service

We actively monitor the evolution of EU security regulations and standards, and update our service regularly to stay fully aligned with them. All improvements and updates are communicated openly — so our customers always stay informed.
One key advantage of Emill is that all data and servers are located within the EU. This sets us apart from global market-driven platforms, whose data security practices may be fragmented or inconsistent.

Direct Feedback Channel

We want to provide a direct channel that serves our customers in the best possible way. Using the contact tool available in the app settings, you can easily reach our development team.

This feature also strengthens the user's voice and highlights our commitment to meeting customer needs.

  • Emill stores the user’s email address for login and communication purposes. The username is completely user-defined — it can be anything and does not need to contain official identifiers like a real name or personal data. This gives users the freedom to use the platform securely and with privacy.

  • No. Emill is completely free from external distractions or third-party advertising.

  • No — unless the user explicitly requests an integration that requires such transfer.

  • Emill provides a license that fits the customer’s needs. The customer manages their own groups and users on the platform and customizes the functionalities to serve their organization or community.

  • Age limits are determined by the license holder, who also manages the groups and users on the platform. The license holder is responsible for complying with all relevant laws and recommendations related to user groups. This ensures safe and appropriate use of the platform in each organizational context.

  • Personal Data Act & GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)

    • The GDPR defines specific requirements for the protection of minors. In Finland, the minimum age to use information society services without parental consent is 13. For children under 13, parental approval is required for data processing.

Act on Electronic Communications Services (917/2014)

    • Regulates the responsibilities of digital service providers and the protection of users’ data. Providers must ensure data security and valid terms of use regardless of user age.

    Basic Education Act (628/1998)

    • If used in schools, the platform must align with student protection principles and pedagogical standards. Responsibility for minor users rests with the educational provider.

    Youth Act (1285/2016)

    • When the platform is used in youth-specific contexts, this law supports actions that promote young people’s participation, safety and well-being.

    Information Society Code (917/2014)

    • Establishes requirements for the security, data processing, and user terms of electronic services.

    Child Welfare Act (417/2007)

    • Especially relevant when the platform is used by minors. The platform must ensure the protection and safety of children and their rights.

    Criminal Code of Finland (39/1889)

    • If Emill enables communication between users, the Criminal Code provisions — including those on defamation, harassment or infringement of rights — must be observed.

Occupational Safety and Health Act (738/2002)

    • If the platform is used in work environments, the use must follow workplace safety regulations, especially for minors employed in the organization.
